Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, entered its fourth consecutive day of peaceful protests against the military dictatorship. The Junta has weathered protests before, and this one is unlikely to cause a government collapse.
It must be noted that the Myanmar regime is firmly supported by China, which counts Myanmar as a staunch ally. The United States seeks improved human rights in the country, and President Bush recently discussed this situation with Chinese President Hu Jintao at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in Australia on September 6, 2007.
